and Carbon Accounting
The Granular Registry Foundation (GRF) is dedicated to advancing global decarbonization efforts by promoting the adoption of Granular Certificates. GRF oversees the methodology of the Granular Registry, which is operated by Clean Incentive.
Our Mission:
To provide a transparent, accurate, and standardized framework for quantifying and verifying the hour and impact of energy generation and storage. Through collaboration and innovation, we aim to empower energy buyers to meet their sustainability goals.

Granular Certificates
Granular Certificates (GCs) are the next evolution of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), designed to track clean energy generation at an hourly or sub-hourly level. GCs provide precise time, location, and environmental impact data for every watt-hour of carbon-free energy produced.

Objectives
Quality and Transparency
01
Develop and Maintain the
Granular Registry Methodology
-
Comply with existing timestamping standards such as EnergyTag to issue GCs.
-
Maintain a robust methodology that combines these GCs with marginal carbon impact.
03
Publication of the GRF Storage Methodology
-
Provide guidelines on issuing GCs to energy storage projects to include utility batteries and other storage technologies to participate in corporate procurement and carbon accounting.
02
Governance and Oversight
-
Operate the registry with integrity and transparency, governed by the GRF advisory board.
-
Continuously review and update the registry methodology to reflect advancements in technology and changes in regulatory landscapes.
04
Promote Education, and Collaboration
-
Provide educational resources and support to help stakeholders understand and implement GCs effectively.
-
Encourage collaboration among industry leaders, policymakers, and environmental organizations to drive innovation.
-
Facilitate knowledge sharing and best practices through working groups, webinars, and industry events.
Advisory Board
The GRF Advisory Board is honored to have an advisory board comprised of esteemed professionals with extensive experience in climate technology, renewable energy, and environmental policy. Our advisory board members provide strategic guidance and support to ensure that our methodology is effective, impactful, and aligned with global sustainability goals.
